Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay announced that Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh will assume the role of Assembly Minority Leader Pro Tempore. This decision follows the retirement of Assemblymember Andrew Goodell. In her new position, Walsh will manage floor operations for the Republican Conference, which includes evaluating bills, leading debates, and overseeing legislative activities.
Walsh expressed her gratitude for the appointment: “I appreciate the confidence placed in me by Leader Barclay and am honored to take the reins, having spent the past four years as Assistant Minority Leader Pro Tempore to Assemblyman Goodell. Watching and learning from Andy how to debate proposed legislation respectfully, thoughtfully and thoroughly has been a formative experience."
Walsh also highlighted her commitment since joining Albany: “Since my first day in Albany, I have fully immersed myself in the legislative process and have dedicated my time and energy into providing a voice for the constituents of the 112th."
First elected in 2016, Walsh has held roles such as Assistant Minority Leader Pro Tempore and is involved with various committees including Education, Judiciary, Mental Health, and Ways and Means.
