Given the absence of a timely state budget, Senator Stec has issued a statement addressing this issue. The senator expresses criticism over the lack of transparency and cooperation between the governor and legislative leaders regarding the budget negotiations.

In his statement, Senator Stec mentions, “Given the failure of the governor and legislative leaders to transparently negotiate a state budget, I voted to pass a budget extender today to ensure New York State meets its financial obligations and that the state workforce is paid." He further criticizes the current administration by stating, "One party controls the governor’s office and both houses of the Legislature, yet they can’t even work with each other to present a fiscally responsible, on-time state budget. This failure rests with them, their ongoing dysfunction and inability to move beyond their high tax-and-spend, anti-public safety agendas.”

Senator Stec's remarks highlight the political tensions and challenges in reaching an agreement on the state budget.
