Senator Jim Tedisco and Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner honored the Schuylerville High School football team at the state Capitol, celebrating their victory as New York State Class C Football Champions. The team, known as "The Black Horses," was recognized with legislative resolutions passed in both the state Senate and Assembly.
The Black Horses secured their first state championship by defeating Salamanca High School with a 26-20 win on December 7, 2024, at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse. Under the leadership of head coach John Bowen, the team achieved an undefeated record in Class C’s East division and concluded their season with an overall record of 13-1.
Throughout the championship game, Schuylerville demonstrated resilience by overcoming a 20-7 deficit in the third quarter and adapting to the loss of their kicker due to injury. This marks their first state title despite previous appearances in championship games in 2015, 2019, and 2021.
