Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Lake George) issued a statement in response to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“I am appalled. This act of violence is not only an attack on a former president but an assault on our democratic process. Political violence has no place in our society. Our democracy relies on the peaceful exchange of ideas and the protection of all individuals’ rights to express their views without fear of harm,” said Simpson.

“I commend the swift and professional actions of the Secret Service and law enforcement officers who prevented this attempt from escalating, and I am relieved to hear the former president is safe. I extend my thoughts and prayers to all those who were present at the rally,” Simpson concluded.
