Simpson: State Budget Neglects Nursing Homes
In a statement released today, Simpson expressed grave concerns over the allocation of funds in this year's state budget, particularly highlighting the neglect faced by nursing homes. According to Simpson, the budget fails to provide adequate support for care providers, putting facilities like the Elderwood Nursing Home in a precarious position.
Simpson emphasized, "Nursing homes are being grossly short-changed in this year's state budget... The funding provided in this budget falls well short of what is needed for care providers who rely on it." The concern extends beyond just financial support, as Simpson pointed out that the Human Services Cost of Living Adjustment rates are insufficient, especially in the face of increasing challenges related to mental health and substance abuse in the state.
Furthermore, Simpson expressed distress over the decision to disrupt the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program, a crucial resource for vulnerable populations dependent on critical home care. Simpson warned that the shift to a single out-of-state fiscal intermediary could have negative repercussions, ultimately impacting the well-being of the state's most vulnerable citizens.
Concluding the statement, Simpson highlighted the overarching issue, stating, "This budget neglects crucial health care needs, endangering the welfare of our most vulnerable citizens." The call to address these shortcomings in the state budget underscores the importance of prioritizing the healthcare requirements of those who rely on these vital services.
