Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Horicon) raised concerns about New York's budget during a recent Assembly session. Simpson expressed his disappointment over the lack of transparency and exclusionary practices in the budget negotiations, emphasizing the need for all New Yorkers' interests to be represented.
"I am disappointed by the one-sided budgetary process that has excluded the Assembly Minority Conference from crucial negotiations. It is imperative all New Yorkers’ interests are represented, and yet our Conference has been sidelined," said Simpson.
Highlighting the alarming debt figures, Simpson pointed out that New York's debt is projected to reach $64.4 billion, making it the second most indebted state in the country. He warned that this growing debt would consume a significant portion of the state's operating funds in the future.
"New York's bloated budget not only burdens taxpayers but is also driving residents away. It simply is not sustainable and the lack of transparency from the Majority only undermines democratic governance, leaving the public voiceless in critical fiscal discussions," Simpson concluded.
Simpson's remarks shed light on the pressing issues surrounding New York's budget and the need for greater transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process.
