Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R, C-Ballston) held a successful drug take-back event in collaboration with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Galway. This marks the first of three initiatives in her annual spring cleaning series. Local residents of the 112th Assembly District were given the opportunity to dispose of unused, expired, and surplus medications and sharps safely. The collected items are set for proper disposal at the Drug Enforcement Administration office.
Walsh emphasized the importance of these events in preventing the misuse of medications. “Preventing unused medications from misuse hinges on events like this. The community’s strong turnout—evidenced by the five boxes of unneeded medications and multiple containers of sharps collected—underscores their commitment. Safely disposing of these outdated items directly reduces the dangers of accidental harm and keeps them out of the wrong hands.”
She extended her gratitude to the local authorities involved in the event. “Thank you to Captain Morley and Lieutenant Shields of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Supervisor Arnold, and the Town of Galway DPW who all helped make today possible. Keep this event in mind for next year, when you start cleaning out those medicine cabinets again, and look out for my next two free spring-cleaning events: an electronic recycling event on Saturday, May 3rd, and a document shredding event on Saturday, May 17th. I hope to see everyone there.”
Following this event, Walsh plans to host the Electronic Recycling Event on May 3, at the East Glenville Fire Department, in partnership with EWASTE+. The final event in the series will take place at Ballston Town Hall, featuring a Shredding Event with Stone Secure Shredding on May 17.
