Simpson has expressed a strong call for accountability following an incident at Marcy Correctional Facility. The incident, which resulted in the death of Robert Brooks, has been described as "deeply sickening" by Simpson.

Simpson emphasized that while the violent actions leading to Brooks' death are intolerable and have understandably outraged New Yorkers, they do not represent the commitment and bravery of most correctional officers. These officers work daily to ensure safety and order within prisons.

“The events at Marcy Correctional Facility are deeply sickening, and the violent actions leading to Robert Brooks’ death cannot be tolerated. While this horrific incident justifiably outrages New Yorkers, we must remember that this incident does not reflect the bravery and dedication of the vast majority of correctional officers who risk their lives daily to maintain safety and order in our prisons,” said Simpson.
