Senator Dan Stec has announced that Governor Kathy Hochul has signed into law legislation he sponsored to implement a potential constitutional amendment related to the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex in Essex County. The legislation, Senate bill S.8047, is designed to allow improvements at the training facilities located in North Elba while maintaining protections for the Adirondack Park Forest Preserve.

Stec emphasized the significance of this measure for both the local community and regional sports infrastructure. “The legislation implementing the constitutional amendment authorizing continued use and improvement of the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex in Essex County is vital to our region. It resolves a longstanding issue in the county, ensures our Olympic facilities remain state-of-the-art and protects the Adirondack Park Forest Preserve. I’m pleased that the governor has signed it into law and ensured that if this constitutional amendment passes, this important work can be completed,” Stec said.

The new law will only take effect if voters approve the corresponding constitutional amendment, which would permit ongoing use and further upgrades at Mount Van Hoevenberg’s Olympic facilities.
