“I’m disappointed by this year’s legislative session,” said Simpson. “Despite New York ranking last in state and local tax burden, Albany pushed through a record-setting quarter-trillion-dollar budget, ignoring the crushing financial strain on our residents. Our criminal justice system is crumbling, exemplified by the largest correctional officer walk-out in decades, yet the Majority’s ‘correction reform’ omnibus bill shamefully omitted every concern raised during negotiations with the governor. Furthermore, Albany’s failure to address our affordability crisis and poor business climate continues to drive outmigration, hollowing out our communities. Life is not easier for working-class New Yorkers; instead, Albany piled on more costs and stripped away choices for our residents.”
