The City of Glens Falls announced on March 12 that residents should hold off on placing yard waste at the curb, despite recent warm weather. The city said that more snow and bad weather are expected before spring fully arrives.

This reminder is important for residents who may be eager to begin spring cleanup after a period of milder temperatures. Officials emphasized that putting out yard waste too early can create problems if winter conditions return.

The city asked residents not to rake or bag yard waste for curbside collection yet. Instead, they should wait until the official Open Pickup period begins on April 20 and continues through Memorial Day, May 29.

“Mother nature is just teasing us! The warm weather lifts the spirits and brings hope…but…we have more snow and bad weather still to come,” the announcement said. “PLEASE: Don’t start raking yard waste to the curb yet! Don’t place bags of yard waste on the curb either.”

More information about yard waste collection schedules can be found on the city’s website at https://www.cityofglensfallsny.gov/152/Yard-Waste-Collection.

City officials said waiting until late April will help ensure that all collected materials are handled efficiently and safely, once winter has truly ended.
