FOIA Request to Empire State University regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Saratoga Standard to Empire State University seeking access to course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 semester. The request aims to obtain syllabi from all departments, schools, and colleges, irrespective of whether the courses were conducted in-person, online, or through a hybrid format.

The request specifies that the records should include relevant metadata such as course title and number, instructor name, department or academic unit, and course delivery format. The requester emphasized the importance of accessing these public records to fulfill professional responsibilities related to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.

Saratoga Standard has also requested a fee waiver for this information based on their role as a media organization. They are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit corporation that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies using Freedom of Information laws.

Our team will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news related to this request and other matters of public interest. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification regarding this matter.
