Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh, representing the 112th Assembly District, collaborated with Glenville business EWASTE+ to host an electronic recycling event on May 3, 2025. The event took place at the East Glenville Volunteer Fire Department and was the second of three drive-thru style spring-cleaning events planned for district residents.
The free initiative allowed participants to dispose of old electronics safely. Last year, the event collected more than a tractor-trailer full of devices such as televisions, computers, keyboards, and radios. This year saw an increase in participation, filling four truckloads with discarded electronics.
Walsh emphasized the importance of recycling e-waste: “It’s no surprise electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream in the world, driven by increased consumption of electronics and short device lifespans. But only about 15 to 20% of e-waste is recycled globally. It’s critical that we properly recycle our electronics to prevent toxic substances like lead and mercury from contaminating our soil and groundwater.”
She expressed gratitude towards community partners and participants: “The continued success of this event each year shows just how committed our community is to responsible recycling. I’m grateful to our partners at EWASTE+, to the East Glenville Fire Department and to all the residents who showed up to do their part. If you weren’t able to make it this time, I hope to see you at next year’s event!”
The final spring-cleaning event will occur on Saturday, May 17, at Ballston Town Hall. Assemblywoman Walsh will be joined by Stone Secure Shredding for a shredding event scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
