Assemblyman Matt Simpson welcomed New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) students from Ticonderoga and Peru to the state Capitol on Mar. 10. The visit allowed the young musicians to tour the historic building and observe how state government operates.
The event underscores the role of music education in North Country schools, bringing attention to programs that support student development. The groups were led by Mike Iturrino of Ticonderoga, board president of We Are Instrumental, and Todd Pray of Peru, board secretary of the same organization.
“It was a pleasure meeting these outstanding NYSSMA students from the district,” said Simpson. “Their talent and hard work remind us why we must continue supporting music programs that enrich lives and build brighter futures for our kids. A special thank you to Mike Iturrino and Todd Pray for their tireless efforts in advancing music education across our region. Their work makes events like this possible and helps ensure every student has access to these opportunities.”
Simpson has advanced community interests through volunteer work, public service, economic projects, and advocacy for state parks, according to the official biography.
